Summer Term 2019

Our Summer One theme is Home and Away. We shall be exploring the geography of our world and finding out about 2 contrasting localities.  To launch this theme, the children will have experience of British Values, ‘What does it mean to be British?’  We will dedicate a day to each of the countries in the United Kingdom and celebrate the similarities and differences between these places.  The children will then lead on to comparing life in the UK with an African country.

Spring Term 2019

Our theme this term is ’Town and Country’.

We will learn about physical and human geography in our own locality of Burgess Hill as well as a contrasting locality. We will begin to explain and describe these places’ different features and also develop our map skills, carrying out various field work tasks.

One of our big questions will be 'What physical and human geography is there in Burgess Hill?' and we will explore this by venturing out to the town centre and observing the environment. This will be followed by a visit to a local village so that we can compare the different features.

Autumn Term 2018 / 2019

Our second theme, A Tale of Three Queens will take us on an exciting  journey through time. We will get off to a royal start where all the children will be invited to come in dressed as a king or queen for the day and get to experience a Tudor banquet.

During the theme, we will be learning about the three most famous queens in England’s history: Elizabeth I, Victoria and Elizabeth II and how their reigns have had significant importance.

Summer Term 2018

Our next theme, Through The Keyhole, will involve the children becoming ’History Detectives’, using clues to find out about buildings and life in the past whilst comparing what they find out to their lives today .

Also during the theme, some children will have the opportunity to visit the Weald and Downland Museum where we shall be learning more about homes in the past as well as historical artefacts and what they may have been used for. All children will also get the opportunity to visit a building of historical significance to further enrich their learning.

Year Two are learning about Town and Country.

In our third theme this year, we will learn about physical and human geography in our own locality of Burgess Hill as well as a contrasting locality.

At the end of our learning we will be able to answer questions like 'What is a village? What is a town?', 'What different habitats are there around Manor Field School and Bedelands?', 'What physical and human geography is there in Burgess Hill' and so on.
